Peeling sofa or cracked car seat? PU, PVC and leather in Mumbai humidity

A sofa that flakes and a car seat that cracks look like the same problem. They are not, and the fix is different.
Which one do you have?
- PU (faux leather): peels in flakes, and you see a fabric backing underneath. Humidity and heat break it down.
- PVC: tougher and shinier. It cracks with sun and age rather than flaking.
- Real leather: cracks and fades from dryness, sun and body oils, but does not flake to fabric.
What each one needs
- Peeling PU: it cannot be painted back. The peeling panels are re-covered.
- Cracked PVC: small cracks filled and sealed; split panels replaced.
- Cracked or faded leather: cleaned, filled, recoloured and sealed.
Car jugaad that works: a windscreen sun shade and cracked-open windows in parking. Most car seat damage in Mumbai is sun and heat.

Can a peeling PU sofa be recoloured?
No. Once PU peels, colour will not hold on it. The panels are re-covered.
